By Beth Buehler

Head to Summit County in Colorado and tap a huge cache of year-round activities, a wide range of lodging properties and venues, Lake Dillon and historic towns like Breckenridge and Frisco. Well-known ski resorts like Copper Mountain, Keystone and Breckenridge also will influence attendees’ interest in attending a meeting or event.

A-Basin, another Summit County favorite for skiing but with no lodging, now has the highest-elevation restaurant in North America with il Rifugio, the new European-style bistro located at just over 12,500 feet atop the Continental Divide. Meals at Keystone’s Alpenglow Stube and Der Fondue Chessel at 11,444 feet and Pioneer Crossing at Breckenridge Ski Resort at 11,400 feet also deliver amazing vistas.

In terms of meeting space, let’s start big. Keystone Conference Center is the largest convention facility in the Colorado mountains. With 100,000 square feet of gathering space, including three ballrooms and 50 meeting rooms, up to 2,000 attendees can be hosted. Plus, Keystone Lodge and Spa has 5,700 square feet of space, including a ballroom and 10 freestanding rooms, Hyatt Place Keystone has nearly 2,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, and Keystone Resort has various outdoor spaces that can be booked. There are 1,200 lodging units all within walking distance to the conference center, including hotels, condominiums and B&Bs.

Located slopeside in Breckenridge, Beaver Run Resort & Conference Center is located on Peak 9 and has more than 40,000 square feet of meeting facilities spread between 22 meeting rooms. The Imperial Ballroom has floor-to-ceiling mountain views and a cozy fireplace. For smaller gatherings, The Lodge at Breckenridge has five meeting spaces, with the largest measuring 4,500 square feet, and Residence Inn by Marriott Breckenridge is ideal for groups of up to 65 guests with 1,500 square feet of meeting space and 129 suites.

Breckenridge Resort has five properties with a total of 40,000 square feet of meeting and event facilities: DoubleTree by Hilton Breckenridge, Mountain Thunder Lodge, Village at Breckenridge, Crystal Peak Lodge, and One Ski Hill Place, A RockResort. During summer months, Peak 8 Fun Park brings out the kid in anyone with a SuperSlide, SuperPutt and miles of challenging mountain biking trails, among other fun options for all ages.

Groups of up to 740 also should consider Copper Mountain Conference Center with a premiere ski in/ski out location at the base of American Eagle and American Flyer lifts. Large windows offer views of year-round action on the slopes and trails as well as blue sky and sunshine, and most importantly there is 15,600 square feet of meeting and event space. There are ballroom-style rooms for large groups, as well as smaller meeting spaces and boardrooms for more intimate gatherings along with a large slopeside deck for outdoor entertaining and dining. The connected Jack’s at Copper One further expands the conference center’s options.

In addition, there are several other meeting and event spaces located throughout Copper Mountain’s villages, including those at Village Square, Mountain Plaza and Copper Pavilion. Copper Mountain Resort manages the conference facilities and catering and has an on-site audio-visual company.
