Destination Colorado Focus On: Group Travel, Meetings and Events in Aspen and Snowmass

By Kristin Kenny, Director of Sales, Aspen at RMC (Rocky Mountain Connections)

“Where the beer flows like wine”… summer, spring, fall or winter, Aspen and Snowmass are year-round destinations for meetings of all sizes. A Colorado mining town rich in history, Aspen has been offering an authentic Colorado experience since the resort boasted the longest chairlift in the world in 1946. During your event, your attendees will get a glimpse of the historic past by visiting the premier performing arts venue, the Wheeler Opera House and the infamous local watering hole, The Red Onion. Just up the road, Snowmass Village is our own hidden gem. These mountain towns have the feel of the most stylish city or a rustic outdoor adventure – it all depends on how you choose to experience Aspen and Snowmass.

The accommodations in Aspen and Snowmass offer a great variety for all types of meetings. These accommodations include The Little Nell, a 5 star property with ski-in/ski-out access on Aspen Mountain. The St. Regis Resort Aspen boasts the largest ballroom in town and the new Chefs Club by FOOD & WINE restaurant. The Aspen Meadows, home to the Gold LEED-certified Doerr-Hosier Center, is adjacent to the Aspen Institute and is an ideal conference facility. The Viceroy Snowmass, another ski-in/ski-out property, has a ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows. The Westin Snowmass will open its doors for the upcoming ski season after spending nearly $50 million on renovations, which include upgrades to its Conference Center. If you’re looking for a condominium style experience, check out The Gant and Destination Resorts Snowmass. At the base of Aspen Mountain, see and be seen at the Sky Hotel. The grand dame of Aspen, The Hotel Jerome, is undergoing a renovation and will reopen in early winter with a sophisticated new look. Aspen and Snowmass can also accommodate your city-wide program of up to 1,000 people.

When planning your agenda, be sure to include time for your attendees to enjoy all that Aspen and Snowmass have to offer. Our year-round destinations offer an array of activities… choose an outdoor adventure, a cultural experience, shopping or delight your palate at one of the many restaurant options in town. Wintertime activities include skiing four world-class mountains on one Aspen Skiing Company lift ticket – Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and Buttermilk, home to the Winter X Games. Delight your guests with dog sledding at Krabloonik, snowmobiling in the backcountry, snowshoeing with a naturalist from the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, ice skating at the Silver Circle Rink, fly fishing, cross country skiing and a historic mine tour.

The local saying is “We move to Aspen and Snowmass for the winter but live for the summer.” The bluebird sky days of summer and low humidity are a perfect backdrop for white water rafting, golfing, horseback riding, fly fishing, Jeep tours, rock climbing, ATV riding, mountain biking, kayaking or canoeing. Attendees can also enjoy the Snowmass Rodeo with the world famous Hickory House BBQ and hiking in and around the Maroon Bells Wilderness Area or the White River National Forest. Enjoy the many parks, street performers, Aspen’s Dancing Fountain or Snowmass Free Concerts on Fanny Hill.

When planning your program for the spring or fall, the following activities are available any time of year – hot air ballooning, fly fishing in Gold Medal waters, historic and silver mine tours, art galleries and museum tours, ghost town tours, yoga, tennis, shopping, paragliding, team building, cooking classes, live music at Belly Up, the John Denver Sanctuary, clay target shooting and ice skating at the Aspen Recreation Center.
